About Dr Sheila Vasoo
Dr Sheila Vasoo is a Senior Consultant and Rheumatologist with more than 20 years of clinical experience. She has managed a wide range of conditions from arthritis, soft-tissue rheumatism and osteoporosis to complex rheumatic diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus, systemic vasculitis, scleroderma and the antiphospholipid syndrome.
She subscribes to timely intervention of rheumatic disease to prevent damage, in order to maximise the chances of the best outcome. She also has a unique subspecialty interest in pregnancy and rheumatic diseases, recurrent miscarriages and reproductive immunology.
She was formerly Senior Consultant, Rheumatology Undergraduate Education Director and Programme Director of the Outpatient Infusion Services at the National University Hospital (NUH). She is an Executive Committee member of the National Arthritis Foundation, member of the Chapter of Rheumatologists and sits on the editorial board of several journals including Lupus. She also serves on the workgroup for establishing National Clinical Practice Guidelines on the management of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
She has published on various aspects of rheumatology, particularly systemic lupus erythematosus and the antiphospholipid syndrome.In 2009, she headed a team that was the first in Singapore to embark on research into immune mechanisms in recurrent miscarriages. In 2012, the team was awarded the John Gusdon New Investigator Award at the joint American and European Society of Reproductive Immunology Annual Scientific Meeting for its findings.
Dr Vasoo remains a Visiting Consultant to the Division of Rheumatology, NUH and in her spare time, she enjoys long walks with her three sons, traveling and engaging in medical missions.
